Paul Valadez (b. San Francisco, CA) is a figurative painter, conceptual artist and printmaker working with mixed media, acrylic, metal and text. The artist’s work represents his experiences growing up in a bi-cultural (Mexican American and Anglo) household and his childhood memories, his work subtly deals with race, culture and history through a concept of “old signage”. Paul earned a BFA in Interdisciplinary Art from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1997. In 2003 he earned an MFA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was awarded a Weiss Urban Livability Fellowship. Currently he lives and works in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas.
