Mexiac (b. 1927 Coto de la Esperanza, Michoacán) is a printmaker, painter and muralist. He learned printmaking at the Escuela de Artes del Libro and later in the ENAP and ¨La Esmeralda¨ schools. Member of the Taller de la Gráfica Popular for ten years. He was a professor at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas for twenty six years. During his career, he has had more than eighty solo exhibitions in Mexico, Chile, Belgium, Japan and Italy. Mexiac created murals in some cases using paint and others carved wood -as relief mural, and others using found stones and cement (such as a 2002 mural in Colima). Recognitions of his work include the Casa de las Américas Prize from Cuba in 1964, a 2010 documentary film about the artist by Othón Salazar called Libertad de Expresión de Adolfo Mexiac and a national homage to the artist in Mexico in 2011. Consider one of the most important printmakers in Mexico today.
