Meiko Ando (Toronto, Canada): Circle, 2008

There is a mountain where souls return after death. In this place they wait in stillness and silence. It is a place where invisible reality resides side by side with our reality. All sounds are accompanied by inaudible sounds. Everything there casts invisible shadows. Many of the old legends and rituals continue to exist on this mountain. On the Day of the Dead, the souls on the mountain are called back to rejoin their families and friends in this world where they feast and celebrate together. During the Day of the Dead, the inaudible voices and sounds are heard and invisible shadows become visible.
