José Agustin Andreu (b. Mexico City, USA) of Puerto Rican parents and raised in Puerto Rico, Spain, France and the United States. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1982 and from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI with a Master of Fine Arts in 1986. He has exhibited in the United States, Mexico, Cuba, and Europe and currently teaches painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and two-dimensional design at Columbia College Chicago. José’s work documents the morphology of identity. It uses structures that reflect abstract ideas about space, form, and illusion as well as color and light.
