Humberto Figueroa • Agua amada (Beloved Water), 2018 Woodcut

Printed by José Vega

I represent the water like a vast body that extends to the infinity of the visual field. I have maintained with the water, as a body of sea or river, a relationship of attraction and distance. Being before water in those forms I am ecstatic for their chromatic variations, textures caused by movement and ambient light during the seasons of the year. Their immeasurable strength is offset by singing emitted when it hits coral and sand on the coast, or as the currents stumbles with stones in the river. Its amplitude contains sensual load, its mysterious rhythmical strength is hypnotic. The waters of a plank in wood turn into echo of the water movements. Facing the design of nature, I engage a dialogue by incorporating the footprint in the graphic process. In the print, a figure tries to combat the centrifugal embrace of the ocean.
