Carlos Barberena • Salao, 2016 Woodcut

My print is a self-portrait about the “spilling salt” superstition, as a symbol of bad luck and evil omen. In the image, I am performing the ritual to avoid bad luck that requires to toss a pinch of salt over the left shoulder, into the face of the devil who lurks there. – And por si acaso /just in case – I am crossing my fingers for luck too.
