Atlan Arceo-Witzl • Una experiencia de agua (A Water Experience), 2018 Linocut

I wanted to explore water as a catalyst or component of my daily life. Language and communication have curious ways of networking a large variety of ideas around one individual component that I find endlessly intriguing. The images and pieces of text in the work are happenstantial encounters involving water: weather and its specific terminology, figures of speech and colloquialisms, helpful or precautionary signage, containers and dispensers, places and things. Each part of the composition points to water’s important, but at times unassuming, role in the everyday. It is part of what sustains life, from the tiniest ant to a human being, even if we don’t always recognize it.
